Tidewater Waldorf, located in beautiful Savannah Georgia, is looking for a Lead First Grade Teacher.
Tidewater is a Waldorf program that supports families that have chosen home education. Our hybrid homeschool education model offers Waldorf classes three days a week while also allowing for the natural rhythm of home life to flourish in family homes. We emphasize the importance of protecting our children’s childhood and allowing them to flourish through their imagination and play. Our First-Grade class includes all the aspects of a traditional Waldorf Education while also educating families on how to incorporate these practices in their own home and lives.
The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating the magical environment of the First Grade classroom. They are asked to create and carry out main lessons with art, circle time and songs, poems and integrative movement, and story. The teacher sets the rhythm and order in the classroom while also holding a gentle space for children to feel safe and welcome to learn.
Responsibilities- Creating and implementing First Grade curriculum blocks for Math and Language Arts based in Waldorf Pedagogy
- Creating a weekly and daily schedule that follows the Waldorf Pedagogy
- Creating strong classroom boundaries and managing classroom in a gentle but firm manner
- Regular parent communication and education
- Participating in the life of the community, festivals and faculty meetings
This is a part time position that allows a healthy work/life balance for both the teachers and families. We have found that our hybrid program creates a space to slow down in our lives and keep our energy recharged for our classroom work. Even though this is a part time position there are many opportunities for teachers to expand their work to create a more full-time position if desired.
