PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the supervision of an administrator and general direction of a classroom teacher, assists the teacher in the education of students including management of student behavior; recordkeeping; instructional assistance; classroom safety, security and organization; and interaction and communication with students, support staff, parents/guardians, and agencies.

Requirements- Education Level: Associate’s degree
- Preferred:
Must meet Highly Qualified criteria for state licensure of either 2 years of college course credits or Associate’s degree; passing grade on the state approved assessment. - Experience, Skill, and Certification:
- Demonstrable ability to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher and to guide students with enrichment, remedial, and independent work as set up by the teacher.
- Knowledge of general office computer software applications, as well as use of the internet.
- Appropriate oral and written communications skills with students, parents, and co-workers.
- Must have the physical ability, dexterity, endurance, and temperament to work with students.
- At least two years of successful performance working with children with learning and behavioral difficulties.
- Experience working with applicable age students who have behavior challenges.
- Assists with instruction for assigned students under the direction of the teacher.
- Prepares activities under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher, including bulletin boards, displays, exhibits, and related classroom and school displays.
- Participates in parent conferences and in-service training programs.
- Assists individuals and/or small groups of students in various educational settings including the media center, computer lab, and community-based instructional settings.
- Scores objective tests, assignments, and papers and maintains appropriate records for teachers.
- Collects and records performance data, including observations, to assist in student evaluations.
- Assists in the development and implementation of behavioral management procedures to support a safe learning environment.
- Assists in the presentation and distribution of the student evaluation results to parents, teachers and other authorized recipients.
- Works with the teacher to develop lesson plans.
- Carrys out tutoring activities designed by the teacher.
- Assists in monitoring supplementary work and independent study.
- Assists with clerical duties under the direction of the classroom teacher or administration.
- Assists Classroom Teacher with non-instructional duties such as breakfast/snack/lunch time, bathroom, and/or clothing routines, and procedures to ensure the supervision and safety of students.
- Assists with instruction in the physical education program as necessary.
- Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be the classified 200 day schedule. Non-exempt 102.

There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies, as well as bending, stooping, or stretching.
