Job Description

Primary Function: Provide appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities for each student assigned to the class.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (Advanced degree preferred).
  • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in the assigned teaching field (English 6‑12).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching Tasks

  • Provides Instruction:
    Teaches at an appropriate instructional level, provides content development, builds for transfer.
  • Assesses and Encourages Student Progress:
    Promotes student engagement, monitors progress, responds to both adequate and inadequate progress, supports students.
  • Manages the Learning Environment:
    Uses time efficiently, maintains an effective physical setting for instruction, maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
  • Virtual Duties and Responsibilities

    • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the virtual platform, in written and oral form, including electronic media.
    • Use a variety of programs and software applications to complete instructional and administrative tasks.
    • Participate in professional learning to enhance ability to provide engaging online instruction; participate in required Professional Learning that leads to virtual teaching endorsement.
    • Clearly articulate deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure coursework completion in a timely manner.

    General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow professional practices consistent with school and district policies; interact professionally with students and parents; be available for conferences; facilitate home‑school communication; maintain confidentiality of students’ records; work cooperatively with administrators, colleagues, and parents.
  • Comply with school, district, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies: conduct assigned classes; enforce regulations concerning student conduct; be punctual; provide information for substitute teachers; maintain accurate records; attend faculty meetings; comply with contract conditions.
  • Demonstrate professional practices in teaching: model correct use of language; demonstrate up‑to‑date knowledge; implement curriculum; maintain lesson plans; assign reasonable tasks and homework.
  • Act in a professional manner and assume responsibility for the school program, its safety and order: protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities; supervise students in out‑of‑class settings.
  • Perform other duties as required based on content area taught.
  • Plan and coordinate assignments for paraprofessionals and supporting staff.
  • Perform other duties as required by district, school, or student need.
  • Terms of Employment

    Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 190 days. Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience.

    Non‑Essential Responsibilities

    A responsibility is considered “non‑essential” if it is shared between multiple incumbents or could be performed by another employee in the same workgroup. Note the responsibility number from the Duties and Responsibilities section for such responsibilities. Any accommodation request must be reviewed on an individual basis.

    Physical and Sensory Demands

    This position requires prolonged periods of standing or walking, occasional bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of equipment. Reading, listening, writing, and speaking are required. There may be occasions that require the lifting or restraint of a student.
