Qualifications
  • License and Certification:
    Meets Georgia certification requirements in early childhood. Gifted certification and/or concentration preferred.
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a PSC approved college or university required.
  • Experience:

    Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Skills:

    Advanced language proficiency in the immersion partner language; knowledge of target language cultural practices and perspectives; knowledge of GCPS Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum; ability to integrate curriculum, GCPS policies, and effective instructional practices; ability to infuse technology into instruction; strong oral and written communication skills in both target language and English; effective human relations skills.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan for appropriate learning experiences for students in the Dual Language Immersion Program based on the district AKS curriculum and provide an atmosphere conducive to development of students.
  • Demonstrate command of school subjects being taught in target language.
  • Develop and prioritize short- and long-term instructional objectives based on district AKS curriculum.
    • Identify prerequisite skills.
    • Plan instruction to promote mastery.
    • Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
    • Prepare written lesson plans in target language.
    • Plan appropriate assessment of student learning.
  • Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities.
    • Review core materials.
    • Select core and supplemental materials matching the AKS.
    • Select resources for learner needs and scientific research.
  • Provide initial focus for lesson: communicate objectives, link content to prior knowledge, capture attention.
  • Organize content for presentation: present logically, organize into blocks, follow research-based plan.
  • Utilize effective instructional strategies: assess learning, provide feedback, collaborative learning, multiple practice opportunities, teach vocabulary, use visual representations, summarize, develop literacy skills, build background knowledge, use questioning techniques, use technology, inquiry-based problem solving, set personal goals, compare and contrast.
  • Provide formative assessment: monitor progress, adjust plans, provide criteria for self-assessment.
  • Provide summative assessment: assess learning, appropriate for learners, maintain records, communicate results, use data for planning.
  • Organize learning environment: classroom arrangement, transitions, housekeeping system.
  • Maintain behavior conducive to learning: set expectations, monitor, manage behavior, focus on behavior, discretion, encourage participation, mutual respect, warmth, friendliness, enthusiasm.
  • Participate in professional growth and learning activities, apply new knowledge, demonstrate progress toward goals.
  • Maintain professional responsibilities and model behavior: written and oral expression, punctuality, records, substitute plans, attendance, sharing, cooperation, communication with family.
