Educational Programming Specialist
This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and expanding educational programming at Oatland Island Wildlife Center to ensure high-quality, standards-aligned learning experiences for students, educators, and community stakeholders. The Educational Programming Specialist oversees field trip alignment to Georgia Standards of Excellence, outreach programs, after-school learning opportunities, summer camp coordination, and instructional partnerships that strengthen experiential learning.
The Educational Programming Specialist will serve as a key member of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center leadership team, supporting the strategic vision, daily operations, and educational mission of the facility. This role will assume leadership responsibilities across the organization as needed and may serve as the Director's designee for designated operational, instructional, and organizational matters as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities- Strong knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence and instructional best practices.
- Understanding of experiential learning, environmental education, and STEM-based programming.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple educational programs simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze data and improve educational programming outcomes.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Science Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Environmental Education, or related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in educational programming, teaching, curriculum development, or experiential learning.
- Experience coordinating field trips, outreach, or student-centered learning opportunities.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Science Education, or related field.
- Experience in outdoor learning, wildlife centers, museums, STEAM/STEM or informal education environments.
- Experience with summer camps, JRTOC, after-school programs, or grant-supported initiatives.
- Teacher Support or Coaching Endorsement
Required:
- Valid Georgia Driver's License.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events.
Preferred:
- Georgia Teaching Certification.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.

Work EnvironmentEmployees in this classification are normally exposed to both office and outdoor environmental settings. Duties may require standing, walking, lifting instructional materials, and exposure to varying weather conditions while supporting experiential learning.

Frequent climbing up to twenty (20) feet, and/or working on building roofs.
Exposure to heavy dust, dirt, chemical or paint fumes, or other airborne matter.

Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat and cold, rain, biting insects and humidity, strong odors, dust, hay, and animal fur/dander.
Sitting or standing for extended periods with limited control over rest periods.

Has regular contact with potentially dangerous animals. Must be willing and able to operate lethal firearms in the event of a dangerous animal escape.
