Job Description General Description

This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and expanding educational programming at Oatland Island Wildlife Center to ensure high-quality, standards-aligned learning experiences for students, educators, and community stakeholders. The Educational Programming Specialist oversees field trip alignment to Georgia Standards of Excellence, outreach programs, after-school learning opportunities, summer camp coordination, and instructional partnerships that strengthen experiential learning.

The Educational Programming Specialist will serve as a key member of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center leadership team, supporting the strategic vision, daily operations, and educational mission of the facility. This role will assume leadership responsibilities across the organization as needed and may serve as the Director’s designee for designated operational, instructional, and organizational matters as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and align all field trip programming to Georgia Standards of Excellence and district priorities.
  • Create standards-based educational experiences that support science, literacy, STEM, and interdisciplinary learning.
  • Coordinate scheduling of all field trips, educational visits, and instructional programming.
  • Serve as primary liaison for schools regarding logistics, programming, and instructional expectations.
  • Develop outreach programming for schools, homeschool groups, and community organizations.
  • Design and implement after-school enrichment and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Oversee planning and coordination of summer camp programming, staffing support, and instructional organization.
  • Develop teacher resources, pre-visit and post-visit materials, and educational supports.
  • Analyze participation, feedback, and learning outcomes to improve programming effectiveness.
  • Support strategic planning for future educational growth and special initiatives.
  • Assist in grant-supported educational initiatives and community partnerships.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for organizational effectiveness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence and instructional best practices.
  • Understanding of experiential learning, environmental education, and STEM-based programming.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple educational programs simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze data and improve educational programming outcomes.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Environmental Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in educational programming, teaching, curriculum development, or experiential learning.
  • Experience coordinating field trips, outreach, or student-centered learning opportunities.
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Science Education, or related field.
  • Experience in outdoor learning, wildlife centers, museums, STEAM/STEM or informal education environments.
  • Experience with summer camps, JRTOC, after-school programs, or grant-supported initiatives.
  • Teacher Support or Coaching Endorsement
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements Required
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events.
Preferred
  • Georgia Teaching Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
