SY 26-27 Teacher Assistant / Paraprofessional Elementary

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Savannah Classical Academy, Savannah, Georgia.

Provides instructional support and a safe learning environment for elementary students. Assists classroom teachers with instructional and non‑instructional duties, helps maintain classroom organization, and supports student behavior and engagement.

• Assist the classroom teacher in delivering lessons for assigned students, including enrichment, remedial, and independent work.
• Prepare classroom activities under the guidance of the teacher, such as bulletin boards, displays, and exhibits.
• Participate in in‑service training programs.
• Assist with non‑instructional duties such as meal times, bathroom routines, and safeguarding student safety.
• Support small groups and individuals in educational settings (media center, computer lab, community‑based instruction).
• Assist with clerical duties under the direction of the classroom teacher or principal.
• Assist with instruction in the physical education program as needed.
• Assist students with daily care routines, such as feeding and toileting, as required.
• Perform additional duties to support the effectiveness of the school and safety of students.

• High‑school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred.
• Meet Highly Qualified criteria for state licensure in any of the following: two years of college course credits, an associate’s degree, or a passing grade on the state‑approved assessment.
• Demonstrated ability to reinforce material introduced by the teacher and guide students with enrichment or remediation.
• Knowledge of general office computer software and internet use.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and coworkers.
• Physical ability and endurance to work with students, including standing for extended periods and handling routine classroom tasks.

• Salary: $18.42 per hour
• Position type: Full‑time
• Work days: 190 days per year
