Position Summary

The Future Healthcare Leaders (FHL) Program Director is a key faculty (rank commensurate with experience) and administrative leader responsible for 50% teaching and 50% program oversight
, development, mentoring, and retention of students enrolled in pre-professional, allied health, and healthcare pathway programs including nursing, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapy assistant, and other clinical or academic programs. Key responsibilities include teaching courses to support pre-professional preparation
, managing daily program operations, providing individualized student mentoring and support, tracking and monitoring student progress, supporting student progression and retention, facilitating successful transitions from pre-professional to professional clinical phases and/or continued enrollment, collaborating on curriculum updates, assisting with assessment, and ensuring a high-quality educational experience. The FHL Program Director collaborates with campus, college, and program leadership, admissions, academic support, financial aid teams, and clinical partners to retain students and ensure seamless program transitions.

The Future Health Leaders Program Director works directly with the Department Chair to maintain program strength and sustainability while serving as the primary advocate and guide for students navigating their healthcare career pathway.

Essential Functions
  • Teach courses essential for pre-professional healthcare preparation
  • Develop and deliver curriculum in disciplines supporting clinical and academic programs
  • Assess student learning outcomes and provide academic feedback
  • Provide strategic support services to facilitate a seamless transition from pre-professional to professional clinical programs and/or continued enrollment
  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Future Healthcare Leaders program and related pre-professional/academic/healthcare pathway initiatives/events
  • Provide individualized mentoring and academic coaching to pre-professional healthcare students, to include (but not limited to) providing guidance on clinical preparation and professional development
  • Perform instructional duties as outlined in the Faculty job description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook
  • Track and analyze pre-professional student retention, progression, and outcome data to coordinate timely interventions to support student success and persistence along with continuous program improvement
  • Develop and implement co-curriculum programming, workshops, and mentoring opportunities that enhance student readiness for entering into the professional phase of their program, including any admission exams (TEAS, etc.)
  • Act as primary advocate for students navigating healthcare career pathways
  • Participate in faculty development each year as required
