General

Summary:

The REACH Paraprofessional supports teachers and school staff in providing a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for students. The Paraprofessional assists with instructional activities, classroom management, student supervision, and individualized student support under the direction of a teacher.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist teachers in delivering classroom instruction and reinforcing learning objectives.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group academic assistance under teacher supervision.
  • Assist students with classroom assignments, projects, and learning activities.
  • Prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and educational equipment.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the supervising teacher.
  • Support differentiated instruction for students with varying academic abilities.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom order and appropriate student behavior.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records as assigned.
  • Assist with copying, filing, data entry, attendance documentation, and classroom organization.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and required training sessions.
  • Model professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Support school-wide initiatives and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators.
  • Basic computer proficiency including, Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Professional judgment and discretion.

Education and Experience:

  • A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved and accredited institution is required. Plus, one of the following requirements:
    • Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; or
    • Completion of at least two years (60 semester hours) of college coursework; or
    • A passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Previous experience working with adolescents.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the building to observe classrooms and activities.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Sit for prolonged periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Assist in student supervision indoors and outdoors.
  • Respond quickly during emergency situations.
  • Use standard office equipment including computers and printers.
