Lower School Physical Education Teacher / Coach

Savannah, GA.

The Savannah Country Day School seeks an energetic Physical Education Teacher/Coach to join its learning community for the  academic year. This full-time position will include Physical Education teaching assignments in the Lower School, as well as training and coaching athletic teams during the school year.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Teach physical education classes, focusing on fundamental movement skills, fitness, and sportsmanship.
  • Develop and teach age-appropriate physical education curriculum, demonstrating fundamental movement skills, sports techniques, and fitness concepts.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support growth and skill development.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to students, promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
  • Coordinate and direct sports team practices, drills, and player development.
  • Work closely with coaching staff to ensure alignment with team objectives.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to student-athletes on offensive/defensive techniques, plays, and positional responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with other faculty, staff, and parents to support student success in the classroom and on the field/court.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
  • Experience teaching Physical Education classes in the K-12 environment desired.
  • Three (3) or more years’ teaching or coaching experience strongly desired.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to reach their full potential is essential.
  • Commitment to upholding the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and teamwork is a must.
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurability required.
  • Attendance at evening and weekend functions is required.
Physical Demands:

This position involves routine physical activity, with regular bending/reaching, pushing/pulling, stooping, and crouching. Also requires intermittent sitting, standing, and walking in various settings. Occasional running or brief strenuous activity may be required to demonstrate or aid in student training. Work is typically performed in campus buildings and outdoors, where the employee is occasionally exposed to heat, cold, or inclement weather. The employee carries light to medium weight objects, up to 50 pounds.
