Job DescriptionSavannah Technical College seeks a full-time Instructor for the Basic Law Enforcement Program. This individual will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to complete the Basic Law Enforcement Certification Technical Certificate of Credit.
Responsibilities- Instructing students
- Developing program syllabi, goals and objectives
- Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
- Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate
- Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences
- Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom and lab environment
- Working diligently to maximize student placements in this field or related fields
- Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or in a related field with 10 graduate hours in Criminal Justice or related law enforcement experience.
- Georgia P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) Instructor Certification (in good standing).
- Three (3) years of full-time law enforcement experience.
- Proven experience in maintaining lesson plans and course notebooks that reflect current curriculum.
- Ability to use a variety of teaching methods to facilitate adult learning and provide educational assistance to individual students as needed.
- Knowledge of current trends and conditions of local business and industry.
- Experience in designing and implementing quality improvement programs.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability required.
Candidates may be required to submit a valid Driver’s License, proof of insurability, and/or a driver’s history report for positions involving state travel
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.
- Georgia P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor, EVOC, Defensive Tactics Certification and other high liability certifications strongly preferred.
- Teaching experience in a college or university strongly preferred.
The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office/laboratory environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.
