Writing Center Student Assistant
The Student Assistant will support the Writing Center as a Writing Tutor on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities:
- Help students to organize and develop drafts of their writing projects in one-on-one conferences
- Welcomes students to the Writing Center (Front Desk Work)
- Consults with writers on their writing at any stage in the writing process
- Documents their writing consultations, following the Writing Center documentation process
- Helps to facilitate small group or class workshops on writing with the assistance of the director and/or a graduate assistant
- Helps to provide brief Writing Center introductions to students, faculty, and/or classes
- Helps support other Writing Center functions, such as creating or revising promotions, flyers, handouts, or other materials
- Completes regular professional development/staff meeting sessions with the Writing Center team
- Filing Shift Specifics:
Up to 10 hours per week Flexible with schedule of availability
Required Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements:
Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University. - Preferred Education:
Successful completion of ENGL 1102 (or the Equivalent)
Proposed Salary: $12.00 per hour This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
