Position: Student Assistant - Writing Center - Writing Tutor (Fall 2026)

Writing Center Student Assistant

The Student Assistant will support the Writing Center as a Writing Tutor on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Responsibilities:

  • Help students to organize and develop drafts of their writing projects in one-on-one conferences
  • Welcomes students to the Writing Center (Front Desk Work)
  • Consults with writers on their writing at any stage in the writing process
  • Documents their writing consultations, following the Writing Center documentation process
  • Helps to facilitate small group or class workshops on writing with the assistance of the director and/or a graduate assistant
  • Helps to provide brief Writing Center introductions to students, faculty, and/or classes
  • Helps support other Writing Center functions, such as creating or revising promotions, flyers, handouts, or other materials
  • Completes regular professional development/staff meeting sessions with the Writing Center team
  • Filing Shift Specifics:
    Up to 10 hours per week Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:

    Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
  • Preferred Education:

    Successful completion of ENGL 1102 (or the Equivalent)

Proposed Salary: $12.00 per hour This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
