job description

the director of student engagement provides leadership for programs, services, and initiatives that foster student connection, belonging, leadership development, and overall success across savannah technical college's campuses. This position develops and implements a comprehensive student engagement strategy that supports recruitment, retention, persistence, completion, and workforce readiness. The director creates meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the college, their peers, faculty, employers, and the community while ensuring equitable access to programming across all instructional locations.

The position also oversees student organizations, leadership development, student activities, and student life initiatives that contribute to a vibrant college experience.

major duties
  • develop and implement a comprehensive student engagement strategy aligned with the college's strategic plan.
  • create initiatives that promote student retention, persistence, graduation, and a sense of belonging.
  • coordinate welcome week, new student orientation engagement activities, student appreciation week, and other signature campus traditions.
  • develop programming that supports first-year students, adult learners, veterans, dual enrollment graduates transitioning to college, and nontraditional students.
  • promote student wellness, personal growth, and overall student success through educational programming and campus initiatives.
  • serve as an advisor to the student government association.
  • provide oversight and support for all recognized student organizations.
  • develop student leadership programs, leadership retreats, and leadership development workshops.
  • coordinate student participation in state and national leadership conferences.
  • encourage civic engagement, volunteerism, and community service opportunities.
  • support honor societies and career-focused student organizations, including skillsusa, phi theta kappa, phi beta lambda, hosa, and other student organizations.
  • plan and coordinate a comprehensive calendar of educational, cultural, recreational, leadership, and community engagement activities.
  • ensure student programming is available across all savannah technical college instructional locations, including savannah, effingham, liberty, crossroads, and the savannah culinary institute.
  • coordinate campus traditions and special events that strengthen institutional pride and student engagement.
  • collaborate with faculty to integrate co-curricular learning opportunities into academic programs.
  • develop communication strategies that promote student engagement opportunities using digital platforms, social media, and campus communication systems.
  • maintain a comprehensive student engagement calendar.
  • utilize student engagement software and technology platforms to increase participation and communication.
  • collaborate with the marketing department to promote student activities, leadership opportunities, and student success stories.
  • develop and manage the student activities budget.
  • administer student activity fee expenditures in accordance with tcsg and college policies.
  • ensure compliance with all tcsg policies governing student organizations and student activities.
  • maintain accurate records, reports, contracts, and risk management documentation for student events and programs.
  • coordinate volunteer and community service initiatives that strengthen relationships between the college and the communities it serves.
