Senior Civil Design Engineer - Ports & Marine

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the technical design and oversight of large-scale civil site infrastructure projects within port and marine environments. This role will be responsible for guiding multidisciplinary civil-site design efforts across projects including storage facilities, utility and office buildings, wharfs, loading docks, roadways, sidewalks, and associated infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will bring strong end-to-end project experience spanning conceptual planning, detailed design, project engineering, and construction, with demonstrated coordination of environmental planning and regulatory requirements.

This position plays a critical role in delivering high-impact infrastructure projects that support port operations, logistics, and regional economic development while ensuring environmental compliance and long-term resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and engineering of civil site development projects in marine and port environments.
  • Oversee design and integration of: marine structures (e.g., wharfs, docks, bulkheads), site infrastructure (grading, drainage, roadways, sidewalks), industrial facilities (storage sites, loading docks, utility buildings, office buildings).
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Act as the Engineer of Record and ensure design compliance with applicable standards, codes, and permit requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and marine engineering teams.
  • Manage the transition from conceptual design through detailed design, permitting, and construction support.
  • Collaborate with environmental consultants and agencies to support environmental planning, permitting, and compliance (e.g., coastal, wetlands, dredging permits).
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and construction oversight to ensure adherence to design intent.
  • Interface directly with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies related to site conditions, constructability, and environmental constraints.

Qualifications

  • Minimum:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred) and 8 years of related civil engineering design experience, including civil site design, project engineering, construction phase support/oversight or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, or similar).
  • Experience in grading, drainage, stormwater management, and site design principles.
  • Current holder of, or have no restrictions to obtain, Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Preferred:
Experience with large-scale industrial or logistics facilities.
  • Background in construction management or contractor coordination.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or port authorities.
  • Demonstrated experience with port, marine, or waterfront infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience coordinating with environmental planning and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., AASHTO, ASCE, local/state regulations, coastal engineering guidelines).
  • Experience with marine structural coordination (e.g., pile-supported systems, quay walls).
  • Knowledge of resiliency design for coastal environments (e.g., flood protection, sea level rise considerations).

Additional Information

  • Occasional travel to project sites and client locations.
  • Relocation is an option for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
