Overview
Reporting to the Head of Market Operations & Pricing, the Pricing Manager is responsible for leading end-to-end pricing performance, governance, and execution across all Smartest Energy US markets. This role serves as the central leader of the pricing function, overseeing Pricing Team Leads (Operations and Analytics) and ensuring alignment between pricing strategy, deal execution, and realized financial outcomes. The Pricing Manager owns pricing controls/governance, competitiveness, and workflow efficiency across all deal flow.
The role ensures that all pricing outputs are consistent, defensible, and aligned with market conditions, risk appetite, and company growth objectives. Through strong governance, leadership, and cross-functional coordination, this position enables scalable, high-quality pricing execution across Northeast and ERCOT markets. The individual will work closely with Structuring, Market Operations, Sales, Risk, Finance, and IT to ensure that pricing decisions reflect real market conditions and are operationally executable through settlement.
In this role, you will be involved with the following:
Leadership & OversightLead and develop both Pricing Team Leads
Own team capacity planning, prioritization, and workload balancing across deal flow
Act as escalation point for complex deals, pricing exceptions, and disputes
Drive accountability for pricing accuracy, speed, and margin performance
Establish team structure, roles, and development plans to support growth
Own pricing governance framework, including approvals, controls, and documentation
Ensure consistent application of pricing assumptions, risk adders, and methodologies
Oversee pricing policy updates, rules, and model governance standards
Ensure auditability and defensibility of all pricing decisions
Partner with Risk and Finance to align on controls and exposure management
Translate company strategy into pricing execution and margin frameworks
Set competitiveness targets and margin expectations across markets and segments
Identify pricing improvements, workflow inefficiencies, and automation opportunities
Drive continuous improvement in pricing models, tools, and processes
Align pricing approach with market conditions, volatility, and risk appetite
Serve as primary interface between Pricing and Sales, Structuring, Market Ops, Finance, Risk, and IT
Communicate pricing performance trends, risks, and opportunities to leadership
Align pricing strategy with structuring assumptions and settlement outcomes
Partner with Sales leadership to balance competitiveness with margin discipline
Mentor Team Leads and establish KPIs tied to performance and development
To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:
Experience in retail energy pricing, structuring, or market operations
Prior leadership experience managing analysts or team leads preferred
Multi-ISO experience (PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE, ERCOT preferred)
Experience with pricing models, deal structuring, and margin management
Experience working cross-functionally with Sales, Risk, Finance, and Operations
Strong understanding of retail energy pricing structures and cost components
Familiarity with ISO market structures, settlements, and regulatory frameworks
Understanding of risk management principles and margin optimization strategies
Knowledge of pricing governance, controls, and approval frameworks
Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities
Strong leadership and team development capabilities
High accountability and ownership mentality for performance outcomes
Ability to balance competitiveness with disciplined margin management
Strong communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Proactive mindset with focus on continuous improvement and scalability
