Now Hiring – Planning, Community & Economic Development (PCED) Support Specialist
The Planning, Community & Economic Development (PCED) Support Specialist is an entry-level position designed to provide support across multiple program areas, including grant administration, housing, and regional planning. This role offers exposure to community development, public administration, and planning functions.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Grants Manager with drafting, submitting, and tracking grant applications (e.g., CDBG, RIA, and other state/federal programs).
- Collect and analyze demographic, economic, and infrastructure data to support funding requests.
- Help prepare project scopes, budgets, and timelines in coordination with local governments.
- Track reporting deadlines and assist with compliance documentation.
- Provide administrative and technical support during project implementation, including communication with stakeholders and funders.
- Assist the Housing Manager with data collection, reporting, and compliance monitoring.
- Support intake and documentation for housing-related programs.
- Provide coordination support for housing initiatives, including outreach to partner agencies and local governments.
- Assist with updates to regional and local planning documents, including data collection, mapping, and draft plan elements.
- Support transportation and community development planning by gathering project data and participating in outreach activities.
- Provide technical assistance to local governments on zoning, land use, and related issues (under staff guidance).
- Develop GIS maps, demographic profiles, and other data-driven products.
- Attend planning and zoning meetings to observe and, over time, contribute to staff reports.
- Coordinate and attend Transportation Advisory meetings
- Excellent organizational skills to maintain records including written applications, and computer documents in a clear, concise, legible format.
- Strong oral and written skills are necessary to effectively communicate, perform public speaking, facilitate public meetings, and match the needs of local governments with the appropriate funding sources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements relating to planning & zoning, housing, community & economic development.
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, geography, political science, or a related field and two years training in related field, or equivalent combination of education and three years training and progressively responsible experience in a governmental and/or nonprofit organization serving the public.
