The Cardiovascular Technologist maintains standards related to patient care and technical services during pre-procedural and procedural periods for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures. They serve roles in monitoring, circulating, and scrubbing procedures. The focus is to ensure optimal examinations, interventions, and post-care while maintaining the highest levels of patient safety and comfort.
EducationCompletion of a Certified Cardiovascular Program or a Certified Radiological Program.
Experience1-2 Years of invasive procedures experience required.
License & CertificationProfessional Certification required, such as:
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)
- Registered Radiological Technologist (RTR)
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
Core Job Functions- Provide age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating growth and development principles. Coordinate care with team members and departments.
- Maintain aseptic/sterile techniques during invasive procedures per policy. Proficient in arterial and venous access management.
- Manage cardiac and emergency medications effectively. Ensure standards of care for analgesia and moderate sedation, utilizing Pyxis as per hospital policy.
- Accurately document procedures and patient charges. Identify and communicate major arrhythmias and hemodynamic events for patient safety. Maintain radiopharmaceutical logs and computer entries as required.
- Perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance according to manufacturer and department policies. Enter work orders promptly. Conduct staff education on equipment care and operation annually.
- Maintain current national certifications/registries. Demonstrate competency in all department equipment and procedures.
- Adhere to Joint Commission, OSHA, and CMA guidelines for invasive cardiac patient care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives like Surgical Care Improvement Project, AMI Core Measures, Door to Balloon time, and ACR standards. Ensure team participation in patient safety activities such as Time Out, Read Back/Verify, implant verification, and counts.
