Medical Records handles dual functions within the Radiation Oncology department. It initiates medical charts, collects and organizes medical records, and works closely with front office personnel, providers, and clinical staff. The role involves obtaining pre-certifications for radiation treatments and imaging studies, working with insurance companies to secure prior authorizations, and coordinating peer-to-peer conferences between physicians and payors.

Core Job Functions
Prepare records accurately to ensure timely access by authorized personnel. Monitor charts for additional work assignments. Organize and store records appropriately for easy access by clinical staff.Document within EMR and hospital charting systems regarding precertification and payer correspondence. Ensure referral information is accurately taken by front desk staff to prevent service denials.Obtain precertification for both professional and technical components of Radiation Oncology procedures prior to performance. Communicate status updates to relevant clinical and administrative staff if denials are possible.Assist physicians and administrative staff with appeal processes and peer-to-peer communications when needed. Provide clinical information to third-party payers for payment justification.Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations when releasing patient information. Release protected health information efficiently to appropriate parties. Prepare invoices based on the type of request.Not the right fit?
