Overview
The Clinical Manager of Sterile Processing assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the daily workload of the sterile processing departments and provides for the development and evaluation of unit personnel. The Manager demonstrates leadership abilities while maintaining the operational aspects of the sterile processing units in collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services. Maintains open communication and is available to component organizations and practitioners sites for consultation.
The Manager ensures compliance with all regulatory bodies and ensures that all policies and regulations are followed by all staff members.
- Defines performance objectives and metrics for the department and assesses the level of competence of staff. Prepare and review performance evaluations, as scheduled with case management staff. Develops performance goals/objectives with each staff member to promote maximum productivity, proficiency and professional growth.
- Design instruments to collect and analyze data. Interpret results and apply findings.
- Responsible for assignment of staff to work stations on a daily basis to meet the needs of the OR schedule. Departmental workflow and throughput is monitored in order to optimize efficiency and accuracy. The next day's anticipated workflow is reviewed and potential trouble spots identified.
- Complete evaluations on time, maintain retention, meet or exceed unit established nationally certified certification, and reach annual assessments according to standards.
- Develops, reviews and monitors departmental policies and procedures consistent with system. Monitors for compliance with regulatory and SJ/C standards. Develops and approves patient menus for nutritional adequacy.
- Agreed upon quality metrics are tracked and maintained. Quality metrics are reviewed and QI interventions developed in response to the data. Departments are represented on all hospital wide quality committees.
- Department is compliant with all HR department policies affecting them. Staff are adequately informed of matters affecting them and are able to communicate concerns freely. Daily workload and personnel are maintained to achieve acceptable quality standards.
- Associates Degree - Required
- Certified Sterile Services Tech with prior supervisory/leader experience accepted in lieu of degree, or RN with Operating Room experience.
- 3-5 Years Tech with supervisory/leader experience or RN with Operating Room experience - Required
- National Certification - Required
- Certified Sterile Services for Tech or CNOR for RN
