Employee Relations, HR Manager
Role Description: The Director of Human Resources leads the day-to-day HR function for a 300-employee logistics and transportation organization. This role is responsible for executing HR strategy, overseeing HR operations, and ensuring consistent, compliant people practices across the company.
This position requires a pragmatic leader who can operate strategically when needed while remaining deeply engaged in operational HR delivery.
Primary Responsibilities
1. HR Operations Leadership
- Lead and oversee the daily operations of the HR function
- Directly manage the HR team
- Ensure consistent and effective execution of employee lifecycle processes
- Serve as escalation point for complex employee relations issues and investigations
- Oversee the administration or human resource programs including but not limited to; compensation, benefits, and leave.
2. Execution of HR Strategy
- Partner with the Chief HR & Compliance Officer to implement enterprise HR initiatives
- Translate company priorities into actionable HR plans
- Drive adoption and accountability across departments
- Support organizational changes, growth initiatives, and workforce planning
3. Executive & Leadership Partnership
- Regularly interact with the executive leadership team on workforce matters
- Provide data-driven insight on turnover, performance, engagement, and risk
- Coach leaders on employee relations, documentation, and accountability
- Support performance management and leadership capability development
4. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws
- Maintain and update HR policies and practices
- Partner closely with the Director of Safety & Compliance on cross-functional risk areas
- Support audits, reporting, and internal compliance initiatives
5. Systems, Metrics & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee HR systems and reporting accuracy
- Monitor key workforce metrics and identify trends
- Improve process efficiency and scalability across HR operations
- Develops and implements departmental budgets.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience
- Demonstrated experience leading HR operations
- Strong employee relations and employment law knowledge
- Experience partnering with senior leaders
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role regularly operates within a warehouse and transportation environment. The HR Director must be comfortable engaging with front-line employees on the warehouse floor and in yard operations. Exposure to varying temperatures, equipment traffic, and industrial noise is expected. Regular walking, standing, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.
