General Manager

Savannah, GA — Full‑time

Job Description

Since 1957 Givens has provided customers a single source solution for warehouse, distribution, transportation, packing and crating and air freight services. We have been growing significantly over the last few years and continue to grow at a rapid pace.

The General Manager is responsible for full operational ownership of a transportation‑driven facility, including LTL / regional freight movement, terminal operations, warehousing support, and packing & crating services. The GM will manage P&L performance, optimize workflows across dispatch, drivers, warehouse teams, and material handling operations, and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal partners. This position requires a hands‑on leader who can balance strategic planning with day‑to‑day operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day‑to‑day terminal and transportation operations, including dispatch, dock activity, drivers, and freight flow.
  • Manage LTL, regional, furniture, or specialized freight operations, ensuring on‑time performance, damage reduction, and cost control.
  • Oversee cross‑dock, load planning, routing, and yard management.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Manage equipment utilization, maintenance coordination, and capacity planning.
  • Oversee heavy haul, oversized, and out‑of‑gauge freight movements as applicable.
  • Oversee supporting warehouse, packing, and crating operations tied to transportation and customer needs.
  • Ensure accurate receiving, staging, storage, and shipment preparation.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized facilities with a safety‑first mindset.
  • Utilize WMS/TMS data to improve throughput, labor productivity, and service levels.
Leadership & Development
  • Lead and motivate employees, fostering a positive and results‑driven work culture.
  • Recruit, train, and develop warehouse staff to meet labor demands and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Utilize system data to examine daily worker productivity and implement improvements where needed.
  • Maintain frequent communication with colleagues, departments, and customers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Document outstanding issues at the end of each day and prepare for the following day’s workload.
Business Development & Customer Relations
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships, ensuring exceptional service and long‑term partnerships.
  • Identify new business opportunities and drive growth through strategic business development initiatives.
  • Provide regular reports to management, identifying operational challenges and recommending solutions.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a high‑volume, fast‑paced warehouse or terminal management role.
  • Demonstrated track record of progressive leadership and promotions in previous roles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, WMS, and RF technology is preferred.
  • Forklift Certification is a plus.

  • 7–10+ years of leadership experience in logistics, warehousing, transportation, or related operations.
