Overview
The City of Savannah Recreation & Leisure Services Department has the opportunity for a Tennis Supervisor to oversee the planning, coordination, and administration of the City’s tennis programs, facilities, and events. The supervisor ensures programs align with departmental goals, promote community engagement, and provide quality recreational opportunities for youth and adults. The role involves supervising staff and contractors, managing facility operations, and collaborating with community partners to enhance participation and accessibility.
Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality customer service by responding promptly to inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience for participants and visitors.
- Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, address employee concerns, assign work, provide coaching, and conduct performance appraisals.
- Coordinate, assign, and review work, establish schedules, maintain standards, monitor progress, inspect completed work, provide guidance as needed.
- Plan, organize and supervise a variety of tennis activities and events; monitor program participation, customer feedback, and community needs to guide program improvements.
- Coordinate court reservations, tournaments, and partnerships with schools, community groups, and local tennis associations (e.g., USTA).
- Market, plan, coordinate, and manage city-wide assets, event logistics, timelines and schedules; evaluate and prepare event cost estimates.
- Prepare promotional materials including flyers, press releases, packets, posters, calendars, and schedules to publicize events and programs.
- Create annual departmental budget and capital improvement requests.
- Ensure activities are adequately staffed; verify and approve payroll timecards for part-time personnel.
- Monitor records including registration and daily attendance, supply requisitions, and facility maintenance work orders.
- Perform routine clerical tasks such as collecting fees, filing, answering the telephone, and related work as assigned.
- Check facilities and grounds for unsafe conditions; enforce safety policies, render first aid as needed, and secure facilities at end of day.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Associate’s Degree supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in recreation or educational programs for children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certification preferred or within six months of hire.
The salary is contingent based upon experience, education, knowledge and skills.

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The Operations Manager, or Assistant Parks and Recreation Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES:
Guidelines include department policies and procedures, city regulations, rule books, and safety manuals. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY:
The work consists of varied duties related to coordinating, directing, and supervising Leisure Services programs. Staffing and space constraints contribute to the complexity of the position.
