AboutThe Role
The Distribution Center Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of the distribution center's physical infrastructure. This role ensures that all facilities-related activities support uninterrupted warehouse operations and comply with regulatory standards. The manager leads a team of maintenance and facilities personnel, coordinating repairs, preventive maintenance, and upgrades to optimize facility performance. They collaborate closely with operations, safety, and logistics teams to align facility management strategies with business goals.
Ultimately, this position plays a critical role in sustaining a safe, efficient, and cost-effective environment that supports the distribution center’s productivity and growth.
- Manage and supervise all aspects of facility maintenance, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems to ensure optimal operation.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the life of facility assets.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to schedule repairs, renovations, and facility improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations, conducting regular inspections and audits.
- Oversee facility budgets, including forecasting, cost control, and procurement of materials and services.
- Lead and mentor the facilities team, providing training and development to enhance skills and performance.
- Respond promptly to facility emergencies and incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing facilities in a distribution center, warehouse, or industrial environment.
- Proven experience in facilities management in an automated distribution or manufacturing facility including strong knowledge of powered conveyors, high speed sorters, conveyor electrical requirements, PM programs, lock out/tag out procedures, industrial power equipment, and other equipment typically found in a modern distribution facility.
- Proven experience with preventive maintenance programs and facilities management software.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and other relevant safety and environmental compliance standards.
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or equivalent professional certification.
- Experience with energy management and sustainability initiatives.
- Background in project management, including planning and executing facility upgrades or expansions.
- Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies applied to facilities operations.
The Distribution Center Facilities Manager utilizes technical skills daily to diagnose and resolve complex facility issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for managing the facilities team and coordinating with cross-functional departments and external vendors. Analytical skills are applied to budget management, preventive maintenance planning, and compliance auditing to optimize resource allocation and facility performance.
Problem-solving abilities enable the manager to respond effectively to emergencies and implement long-term solutions. Additionally, project management and organizational skills support the successful execution of facility improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives.
