This position supervises and participates in the daily operations of the Sanitation Department.
- Supervises, directs, and monitors performance of assigned personnel and equipment in daily Sanitation Department operations including Commercial Refuse Collections, Residential Refuse Collections, Street Cleaning, Refuse Disposal or Recycling and Litter Abatement.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- May supervise and direct the daily sanitation code enforcement.
- May inspect properties to enforce City of Savannah codes and ordinances governing waste containerization collection and disposal, and litter and debris control.
- May provide information to property owners regarding codes and steps required to achieve compliance.
- Issues courtesy notices, administrative and recorder court summons as required; takes before and after photographs.
- May prepare case folders; testifies in court.
- May oversee the field training of new enforcement officers.
- Supervises and monitors street sweeping, citation, sign program, and front-end loader operations.
- May monitor the issuance of citations to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies.
- May forward citations to Revenue Department.
- Monitors vehicle repair and maintenance needs and forwards to appropriate personnel.
- Supervises and directs the daily collection of recycling and litter routes; monitors the performance of assigned personnel and equipment.
- Supervises, monitors, and directs daily collection of residential refuse, yard waste, bulk items; monitors performance of assigned staff and equipment.
- Attends neighborhood meetings and provides information concerning department services, policies, and procedures.
- Assigns trucks and crews to recycling and litter routes.
- Ensures trucks are operating properly, safely, and effectively.
- Supervises transfer station roll-off container truck operations and customer support to achieve quality customer service.
- Ensures day-to-day landfill Design and Operations Plan compliance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Associate Degree; with four (4) years of supervisory experience in code enforcement, solid waste management or public work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Class B CDL license preferred not required.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 8:00 p.m.
-6:00 a.m.

20 Interchange Drive Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
