About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County. In operation since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day. Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Technician, Mill Maintenance to join our Thompson Creek team. In this role you will ensure the effective operation of various mill, tailings, outlying area pumps and crushing equipment by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing components as required primarily through the preventative maintenance program, but also to act when necessary to keep all gear running smoothly and effectively.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain and repair mill equipment as requested by Maintenance Supervision from the most complex to the simplest tasks.
  • Use computer programs to check reported trouble and order parts.
  • Maximize equipment availability through utilizing efficient and proactive preventative maintenance programs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as inspections, lubricating, oil changes, and failure analysis.
  • Diagnose faults and malfunctions and carry out necessary repairs including major component replacement and repair or rebuild.
  • Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Work together as a team with Mill Operations to ensure the mill site works as a well oiled, harmonious unit.
  • Other duties as assigned.
About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Mill wright technology trade school certification preferred.
  • 3+ years related experience preferred.
  • Excellent safety record.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work in adverse conditions.
