Structural Mechanic IV – GAC Savannah Position Purpose

In a team oriented work environment, independently performs a variety of structural assembly operations using required tools and appropriate prints, specifications and operational requirements to complete work assignments and ensure conformance to specification. Assists and instructs other team members. All work performed should be in accordance with company design specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Use skill as a specialist to contribute to employee development and an innovative and effective work environment.
  • Perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures and varied drilling and riveting operations; ensure parts/assembly meet requirements.
  • Use complex schematics/blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical instructions to safely perform layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment or fabricated items on aircraft. Coordinate with supervision and inspection to ensure compliance with internal and FAA paperwork, sign-offs and quality specifications.
  • Move to new tasks with minimal, short-term impact to established goal hours and schedule.
  • Rivet structural assemblies and parts using all required tools.
  • Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations, type and size of rivets, hole pattern, cut and form plastics, and follow SOPs with adhesives, sealants and solvents.
  • Check all work and ensure a defect‑free assembly prior to final inspection.
  • Mentor, train and assist other team members in interpretation of blueprints, drawings and engineering orders; develop methods and shop aids to resolve production installation difficulties.
  • Maintain and use all logs and records (MIR sheets, DMTs, crabs, PCOs).
  • Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps and fasteners.
  • Make repairs per DMT, MRR, PCO, performing necessary rework to ensure installations meet conformity.
  • Plan and organize workloads and resource requirements to meet or exceed goal hours and schedule expectations, assist in overseeing projects or other technicians and assess requirements of assigned tasks to procure needed materials and documentation.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area, support the company 5S, Lean Initiative Program, and comply with all safety regulations.
  • Support Lean Activities, comply with safety, 5S and housekeeping policies.

    Other requirements
  • Good working knowledge of computers and related software.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blue prints.
  • Must be skilled in close tolerance work and have knowledge of using special tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to use mathematical formulas to solve dimensional problems.
  • Thorough knowledge of multiple measuring devices, demonstrated ability to use within specified tolerance.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, stands, stairs and work in small spaces and/or restricted areas.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Preferred Skills
    • Advanced sheet metal repair (riveting, drilling, countersinking, bucking, cold working).
    • Structural fabrication using blueprints, engineering drawings, and OEM specifications.
    • Installation and repair of aircraft skin panels, frames, ribs, and bulkheads.
    • Proficiency with pneumatic and hydraulic tools (rivet guns, squeezers, drills).
    Education and experience requirements

    High School Diploma or GED required. 6 years related structural assembly experience. Experience working with Solumnia and Smarteam preferred. Q‑stamp preferred.
