Skill Bridge Experimental Tech II in GAC Savannah

Eligibility:
Must be eligible for the DOD Skill Bridge Program and remain eligible throughout the program.

• 2 years experience in aviation, manufacturing, or electronics.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Eligible for the DoD Skill Bridge Program and meet all job‑specific education and experience requirements.
• Preference given for participants able to participate for at least 90 days, up to 180 days.
• Willing to work the assigned shift.
• Military service members in a Skill Bridge program are not eligible for wages or other benefits.
• Must have 180 days or fewer remaining before discharge, have completed at least 180 consecutive days of active military service, obtain command approval, and agree that participation may be terminated at any time.

• Intermediate experience (2–5 years) in one or a combination of the following:
  • Sheet metal – Cutting, bending, forming, drilling.
  • Aircraft inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • Machining – Plan, layout, setup, and operation of machinery.
  • Welding – Familiar with metallurgy, metal working, and welding processes/technology.
  • Hydraulic installations/assembly experience.
  • Intermediate understanding of computer software.
  • Basic understanding of Solumina, Catia/Smart Team.
  • Test lab experience.
  • Experience with calibration tools, gauges, meters, instruments, and/or transducers.

• Under close supervision, perform planning, layout, setup, and operation of conventional machinery. Assist and train junior machinists.
• Tasks include:
• Setup machines, compute angular dimensions, locate reference lines, center points, and lines.
• Plan sequence of operations.
• Determine proper cutting tools.
• Select proper speed and feeds.
• Perform complex machining tasks.
• Check own work for conformance using precision measuring equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment.

• Perform a variety of metal joining processes and basic metal working tasks.
• Responsibilities:
• Fabricate and install components as directed.
• Remove, refurbish, modify, and reinstall components as directed.
• Fabricate aircraft components requested by technicians or customers.
• Research materials and processes, ensuring compliance with ANSI, AWS, FAA, Gulfstream, and other standards.
• Complete required internal and FAA paperwork.
• Use power and hand tools for cutting, forming, and preparing pieces for welding.
• Use existing systems to manage labor, work orders, picklists, purchase requisitions, and sign off work orders.

Perform other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED required. 2 years experience in aviation, manufacturing, or electronics.

Under limited to direct supervision, perform operation activities in support of experimental, structural, and flammability testing. Operation activities could utilize skillsets related to sheet metal, instrumentation/electrical, fabrication, calibrations, hydraulic/pneumatics, large structural elements, test execution, etc.
