Job Description

Primary Function: The School Nurse is responsible for the total health service program in the school(s) according to established guidelines.

Reports To: Lead Nurse / Cluster School Nurse

LPN=108; ADN=110; BSN/MSN=111/112

Work Days: 200

Education and Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

Requirements:

  • Valid Georgia nursing license
  • AHA or Red Cross BLS with hands‑on skill assessment
  • CPR certification (current)

Preferred:

  • Pediatric experience
  • Experience in providing health instruction
  • Medical bilingual experience
Essential Duties
  • Provides nursing care for sudden illness or injury by opening the school health room.
  • Conducts mass screenings and other appraisal activities to assess the health status of students.
  • Promotes communicable disease control through exclusion/readmission authorization of students having a contagious disease or condition.
  • Assists students to achieve optimal levels of wellness through individual instruction.
  • Works with parents, care providers, and community resources to meet students' health needs.
  • Reviews and assesses student immunization records for required vaccinations.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal continuing education and professional development.
  • Secures and maintains AHA or Red Cross BLS with hands‑on skills assessment CPR (preferably instructor) certification.
  • Complies with directions of the lead nurse and/or cluster school nurse regarding nursing practices.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness and safety of the school.
  • Conducts Medicaid billing for eligible students.
  • Mentors nursing students in accordance with District approved standards.
Terms of Employment

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” The position is “essential personnel, critical staff” during events that create security challenges or disruptions to district operations. The position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB‑R,

Title:

Professional Personnel Time Schedules. Appropriate pay determined based on the Grade LPN=108; ADN=110; BSN/MSN=111/1126 and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. The work calendar will be a 200-day classified calendar. This position is non‑exempt.

Occasional heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional climbing; exposure to dust, chemicals, or fumes; exposure to extreme heat; sitting or standing for extended periods with no control over rest periods; other requirements: valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, ability to travel within the county; exposure to communicable diseases.
