Lumber Yard Associate – Detailed

Job Description

The Lumber Yard Associate plays a key role in providing excellent customer service by assisting with the selection, loading, and handling of lumber and building materials. This position ensures yard cleanliness, safety, and inventory organization while supporting daily operations in a retail environment. you will welcome customers to Taylor Foster and help them find the right products and services for their home improvement needs.

You will interact with customers throughout the day, help them find and select products, occasionally load merchandise, and ensure all customer needs are met.



Key Responsibilities

• Greet customers and assist with locating and selecting lumber and materials
• Load and unload materials for customers and deliveries, ensuring proper handling
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely
• Maintain organized, clean, and safe yard and storage areas
• Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or damaged stock
• Assist with receiving shipments and verifying accuracy of incoming materials
• Follow company safety procedures and guidelines at all times
• Provide accurate product knowledge and advice to customers
• Support indoor retail staff with customer needs related to lumber or delivery coordination
• Perform regular yard inspections to ensure proper stacking and labeling of materials

• Previous experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or retail setting preferred
• Ability to operate a forklift (certification preferred or willing to obtain)
• Strong attention to safety and detail
• Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 100 lbs.)
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Must be reliable and able to work in various weather conditions
