Location:

Reporting to the VP of Retail, the District Sales Manager is responsible for all activities and sales results in the district. The District Manager will hire, train, and develop their management teams to attain sales growth. They will ensure district-wide customer satisfaction and product quality, while managing the territory's financial performance, and managing safety and security within the district of our teams and animals.
EssentialDuties
- Staffing and Training:
Ensure the district is fully staffed and maintains quality bench strength to support the needs of the business; hire, create a talent pipeline, develop and maintain proactive staffing plans; coordinate hiring (pre‑screening, interviewing, reference checks); work with store managers to ensure employees are adequately trained; ensure the training program is utilized within the district; control payroll expenses by overseeing store scheduling, budgeted hours;
complete an analysis of the labor reports each pay period. - Performance Management and Appraisal:
Complete annual performance evaluations of all district store managers; ensure store managers complete evaluations of staff; address performance issues promptly; manage staff merit increases and position changes following HR guidelines; motivate, coach, develop and performance manage teams focused on customer experience and selling model; ensure company values are upheld. - Health & Safety:
Ensure store managers enforce all health & safety requirements (protective devices, accident reports, etc.); motivate, coach, counsel and develop teams focused on selling; manage and approve vacation requests; arrange travel for self and managers to attend company meetings and training seminars. - Operational & Customer Excellence:
Conduct monthly store visits; ensure store ambiance, merchandising execution and operational standards are met; provide coaching and assess brand standards twice per quarter; validate consistency with tools and processes; build relationships and drive ongoing customer satisfaction; track customer ratings and reviews; monitor inventory levels; ensure freshness tracking; ensure monthly Call to Action program execution; conduct regular loss prevention checks; provide after‑hours phone support. - Business Insight:
Drive sales and create a team‑oriented environment; review and analyze sales results; develop and implement individual business strategies; set targets, follow up on performance; prepare expense reports; analyze reports, communicate to Senior Director; review profit and loss statements; control and minimize expenses. - Sales Leadership:
Monitor customer service model; resolve serious customer complaints; provide regular feedback to Senior Leadership; conduct conference calls with district team; participate in regional conference calls; complete quarterly business plans; complete annual business review; foster a sales‑ and profit‑focused positive environment. - Store and Chain Growth:
Ensure operation department responsibilities for store makeovers are completed on time; assist in opening/closing/relocation/makeovers; ensure new stores operational upon opening; monitor local competition; report to Real Estate department on market activity. - Inventory/Merchandising:
Oversee inventory levels; maintain stockroom/refrigerator standards; conduct physical inventories; eliminate loss; maintain store ambiance; control loss by destroying damaged goods; ensure aquarium systems and water tests; use only corporate‑approved fixtures and promotional materials. - Communication:
Share best practices, streamline communication, participate in special projects, community events; bridge operational gaps; report deficiencies; submit operational reports for brand standards and quarterly business plans.
- College level graduate (preferably from a Business, Retail or Marketing program and/or extensive retail experience).
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years retail chain experience at a District or multi‑store management level having led 10+ stores in a large retail chain; ideally progressed in operations roles.
- Demonstrated strong retail visual merchandising skills.
- Ability to travel, visit stores and attend meetings.
- Proficiency with Word and Excel.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
