Overview
Responsible for detection, correction, reporting, managing and preventing safety hazards and security violations on the hospital campus and affiliated SJCHS properties. Will perform duties initiating preventive measures, inspections, drills and first responder response in safety, security, fire safety, emergency preparedness, hazardous material and waste, including OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, National Fire Protection Association and related regulatory agencies standards and codes. Security officers will also be responsible for a safe and secure environment in all areas of SJCHS including key areas such as the Emergency Room, ICU / CCU, Mental Health Holds in the Emergency Room, and security calls in all locations.
Security officers daily duties include protecting patients, staff, property, information, and the hospital's reputation, and responding to emergencies, criminal activity and disturbances. Officers must comply with Security department's Operation Guidelines.
High School Diploma of General Studies - Preferred
Experience1-2 Years Safety, Security or Law Enforcement Equivalent - Required
1-2 Years Healthcare Security - Preferred
License & CertificationInternational Association for Healthcare Safety & Security certification within 90 days of employment. Presently employed Safety & Security Officers will be required to take and pass the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security Exam.
Core Job Functions- Responsible, with accuracy, to detect, correct, report, investigate, manage and if possible prevent safety and security hazards and violations on hospital campuses and affiliated SJCHS properties, while patrolling and enforcing parking policies.
- Assist with inspections of fire extinguisher, automatic sprinkler suppression components, hazardous waste containment facility, access control and any Environment of Care related disciplines. Performs fire or emergency drills as requested by Safety Security Management.
- Responds to requests to assist in Incident Command situations, psychiatric patient evaluations and management, duress alarms, conflict situations, hazardous material/waste spills, non-violent crisis intervention team.
- Completes and passes training designated by Safety Security Management
- Non-violent crisis intervention, International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety Officer, Emergency Operations Center, Decontamination and any training related to the Environment of Care. - Escorts, vehicle assistance (information on local services), campus transportation, directions.
