Job DescriptionPRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for maintaining high visibility on school property to prevent and respond to crimes against district property, students and personnel.

- Education Level: GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved accredited institution. Minimum six months experience in a similar role.
- Certification: Certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) as a police officer.
- Police academy or training in specific areas of security procedures and investigation.
- Ability to operate emergency equipment, weapons, and motor vehicles.
- Ability to maintain crowd control.
- Ability to work rapidly and accurately with names, codes and symbols.
- Ability to prepare accurate and concise written reports.
- Ability to maintain security of confidential materials.
- Ability to judge when to act independently and when to refer situations to a supervisor.
- Ability to work cooperatively with employees, students, parents, and the public.
- Knowledge of criminal and civil statutes.
- Knowledge of police procedures, Criminal Code of Georgia, Juvenile Court Code, and basic law enforcement.
- Ability to work with principals, administrators and other school personnel regarding juvenile or adult offense and to arbitrate for restitution.
- Preferred: Previous experience in law enforcement.
- Enforce regulations and procedures to assure the safety of district property, personnel, and students.
- Maintain high visibility on school campus to safeguard property and ensure student and staff safety.
- Investigate incidents related to burglary, theft, arson, malicious mischief, criminal trespass, and assaults and prepare appropriate reports.
- Interview, apprehend, arrest, transport, book and advise suspects of certain constitutional rights.
- Respond to silent alarm calls and fire alarm calls to determine cause and take appropriate action.
- Conform to prescribed safety standards.
- Perform other duties as necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school and district.
- Background investigation with polygraph, psychological, and medical exam.
- Criminal history record and sex offender registry checks.
- Drug test.
- Maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” This is essential personnel during security contingencies and may be required to work during identified emergency periods per policy GBRB‑R,

Physical and Sensory DemandsOffice:
Typical office environment; may require lifting or pulling equipment, bending, stooping, and occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).
Special job location and conditions:
Duties performed in and out of office settings; requires travel throughout Chatham County and other U.S. locations as required; requires driving a county vehicle.
Exceptional demands: exposure to extreme heat, electric current, hazardous chemicals, extended periods of standing, and potentially violent situations requiring restraint.
