Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform entrance control:
Enforce the District's entry and identification system, operating security screening equipment to detect weapons, contraband, prohibited items, and checking items such as handbags, briefcases, computers, packages, baby carriages, wheelchairs, etc. - Perform roving patrol:
Patrol court facilities and grounds in accordance with applicable post orders. - Perform stationary post assignments:
Stand guard at stationary posts, monitoring closed‑circuit television, duress alarm systems and other security equipment, courtrooms, judge chambers, and jury rooms. - Perform escort duties:
Provide armed escort services for judges, court personnel, jurors, and other designated individuals when directed. - Perform garage parking and pedestrian control:
Direct traffic and control lights on court facility properties as described in post orders and SOPs. - Enforce law and order:
Enforce federal law while performing assigned duties, detain any person attempting unauthorized access to government property or court proceedings, or threatening safety and security of employees, property, and public. - Prepare reports and records:
Prepare reports regarding contract performance issues (labor hours, accidents, fire, bomb threats, unusual incidents, unlawful acts). - Court attendance:
Secure unattended courtrooms, inspect courtrooms prior to a proceeding, test security devices, and perform duties concerning security of the court area. - Preserve order:
Provide security presence in the courtroom, enforce federal law and judicial orders, enforce local court rules, and provide protection to proceedings as circumstances dictate.
- Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or GED. At least three (3) calendar years of verifiable experience as a certified law‑enforcement officer or its military equivalency (Master‑at‑Arms, CGPD, Security Forces Specialist, etc.); all three (3) years must have occurred within the last seven (7) years. Experience must include general arrest authority. - Language
Skills:
Read, write, speak, and understand English; comprehend and apply rules, regulations, directives, and procedures. - Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid state driver’s license with a clean record for five years; DOJ clearance; completion of a certified federal, state, county, local, or military law‑enforcement training academy with proof of certification. - Other
Qualifications:
At least 21 years of age; pass pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check. - Physical Demands:
Meet USMS medical standards and physical demands specified by the contract; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
