CITY OF KINGMAN WATER SERVICE TECHNICIAN WATER DIVISION - PUBLIC WORKS

We’re seeking a Water Service Technician to support the City of Kingman’s water utility operations by responding to service orders, performing meter maintenance, and assisting with meter reading along assigned routes. This role supports a system of more than 24,000 residential and commercial water meters and plays an important part in ensuring reliable meter operation and timely utility billing.

About You:

You’re someone who is comfortable performing physical tasks while working outdoors in varying weather conditions. You enjoy working independently in the field while being part of a larger team effort. You are able to follow established procedures to complete work orders while adhering to monthly production schedules.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of customer service experience related to water or other utility services preferred
  • One (1) year of experience using computers for routine tasks such as data entry; experience with MUNIS preferred
  • Some experience reading, maintaining, repairing, or replacing water meters is desirable
  • Any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License
  • May be required to obtain NIMS training certifications based on assignment
Service Order Response (65%)

Respond to work orders for water service activation and deactivation, including turn-ons, shut-offs, disconnections, and reconnections. Post service notices and notify customers of service interruptions.

Meter Installation, Maintenance & Repair (15%)

Perform basic installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of residential and commercial water meters. Pull meters for testing or calibration and assist with new meter installations. Inspect meters, service connections, and meter boxes for leaks, damage, tampering, or unauthorized use, and report issues requiring further repair. Clear obstructions from meter boxes and perform corrective action as needed.

Meter Reading & Utility Billing Support (15%)

Perform meter reading duties along assigned routes, obtain manual and automated readings, and record data using handheld meter reading equipment. Recheck irregular readings, zero consumption, or possible leaks and report findings.

Customer Service & Communication (5%)

Respond to routine customer questions encountered in the field and refer billing or service concerns to Utility Billing or a supervisor. Communicate professionally with the public, co-workers, and work contacts while providing excellent customer service.
