Job DescriptionPRIMARY FUNCTION
:
This position is responsible for performing skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the district’s facilities and equipment.

- Education Level:
- A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved and accredited institution is required
- Five years of journey-level experience in the locksmithing trade.
- Preferred:
Technical or vocational courses in one or more trades - Experience, Skill, and Certification:
- Through knowledge of mechanical and electronic locking systems, access control systems, and security procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations.
- Skilled in using locksmithing tools and equipment (both hand and power tools).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills.

- Locksmithing and security expertise
- Installation and Repair:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of locks and their components for buildings, classrooms, offices, lockers, and vehicles.
- Expertise in a variety of locks: cylindrical, mortise, rim, digital, and master key systems.
- Handling door hardware: closers, panic bars, hinges, door hold-opens, etc.
- Replacing complete door units and adjusting door hardware to ensure accessibility and safety compliance (ADA and egress requirements)
- Keying and Access Control:
- Cutting new or replacement keys and maintaining accurate records of key distribution and master key systems.
- Programming and managing electronic access control systems and key card systems.
- Troubleshooting and repairing electronic key card systems and related components.
- Security System Management:
- Troubleshooting and maintaining existing security systems and their interfaces with locking and other building systems.
- Providing guidance and support to other staff on key control procedures and security best practices.
- Collaborating with Public Safety and other departments to plan and implement emergency campus lockdown procedures and access protocols.
- Maintenance and Inspection:
- Performing preventive maintenance on all locking devices and electronic systems.
- Maintaining records of lock and key installations, and the overall lock cylinder system.
- Ensuring an adequate inventory of locksmith supplies and equipment.
- Inspecting work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with standards and codes.
- Planning and Design:
- Consulting with administrators, contractors, and engineers on new construction and renovation projects related to locking systems.
- Developing practical and cost-effective access control strategies and systems.
- Ensuring proper hardware and locks are used and are compatible with existing systems.
- Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintaining thorough and accurate records of master key systems, access control systems, and inventory.
- Preparing routine reports, material lists, job cost estimates, and records of locksmith needs.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Understanding and adhering to applicable city, state, and national building codes, fire codes, life safety codes, and ADA regulations.
- Ensuring safe operating and work procedures are followed.
- Ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
