Job Overview

Mobile Diesel Technician II – Cox Automotive – USA. The role is an individual contributor mobile technician responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance (PM) services, light repairs and diagnostics on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.

• Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas/diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
• Diagnose, adjust and repair various equipment, including air‑conditioning systems (where applicable).
• Use test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges; road‑test vehicles to confirm correct operation.
• Maintain parts inventory, reconcile company‑issued service vehicles, and conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
• Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company iOS device and TRAIT application.
• Manage independent daily schedule, prioritize tasks, and meet standard repair times.
• Coordinate with management and support teams for approvals and documentation.
• Adhere to safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.

• High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (alternative: any degree/certification beyond HS plus 5 years of experience).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
• Available for a 100% travel program and a variable shift schedule (Tuesday – Saturday).
• Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background check and DOT physical or provide a DOT medical card with >4 months validity.
• Minimum age 21 due to interstate operation requirements.

• ASE T8 (PMI) certification (must be obtained within 18 months).
• Preferred certifications: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609.

• Physical capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; perform moderate heavy labor.
• Strong communication skills – succinctly convey information in written and verbal form.
• Ability to select appropriate tools, judge distances accurately, and apply logical reasoning to solve problems.
• Two‑way communication with clients and team members; provide customer service and problem resolution.
• Self‑motivated, independent work, time management, and adherence to safety protocols.
