OverviewThe General Trades Technician will provide general maintenance to facilities and building maintenance. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be a valuable member of the maintenance team, responsible for checking, troubleshooting, and making routine repairs in electrical, air conditioning, water heaters, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other building maintenance areas. Work may include tight spaces depending on the maintenance requirement.
Responsibilities- Perform general maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment.
- Respond to service requests—including electrical, furnaces, lighting, HVAC systems, appliances, water heaters, disposals, general plumbing and fixtures, carpentry, painting, roofing tasks, and other required maintenance items.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure machines operate smoothly and that buildings do not deteriorate.
- Follow an established preventive maintenance program for heating and ventilation systems, and replace filters as required.
- Assist in emergency maintenance—sewage back‑ups, water main or lateral breaks, fires, leaks, appliance repairs, etc.
- Assemble, install, and repair wiring, electrical components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Check blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs; install, maintain, evaluate, and repair any facility system components.
- Operate plant equipment and building automation systems.
- Maintain equipment such as tools, gauges, snakes, drills, and keep them ready for repair.
- Operate trade tools and equipment; maintain an accurate inventory of materials and tools.
- Understand proper use of equipment, chemicals, and PPE.
- Read and employ blueprints, plans, drawings, and sketches to determine work and resources.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace; perform all work per safety procedures, OSHA, CGL standards, and client needs.
- Handle hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws.
- Correct unsafe conditions promptly.
- Observe all safety practices and regulations.
- Ensure maintenance conforms to quality standards and deadlines.
- Complete required compliance, safety, and developmental training.
- Be available for on‑call services as needed.
- Train other technicians and provide mentorship and oversight.
- Drive for the Company using a Company vehicle or a personal/rental vehicle more than 50% of the time; input work orders into the CMMS system.
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Trade certification preferred.
- 1–3 years experience in building repairs and maintenance or in a specific area of assignment (preferred).
- General knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and lift weights up to and occasionally above 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work occasional on‑call shifts.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, reliability, and teamwork.
- Computer proficiency.
- Certifications may be required at hire or within a specified timeframe.
- Self‑motivated, multitasking, prioritizing, and excellent communication skills; effective client interaction.
- EPA certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment.
