Job Summary
- Pole Climbing (up to 60 ft.)
- Work on the pole
- Pull and splice wires
- Install electrical service (pole to pole or pole to service point)
- Operate and drive company trucks, including bucket trucks
- Operate heavy equipment (Backhoe or similar)
- Work outdoors in adverse conditions, day and night
- Operate electrical systems – transmission, substation, distribution switching
- Write switching orders
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems
- Troubleshooting
- After‑hours first responder
Candidate must be available for emergency call‑outs (including evenings, weekends, holidays) for at least 50% of the time and willing to travel outside the state for storm emergencies.
Job RequirementsExperience required:
Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of 5 years in the electric utility industry and 3 years of Journeyman Lineman experience working with voltages above 600 volts; overhead distribution experience (up to 25 kV) required; underground distribution experience preferred.
- Classified as a Safety Sensitive position; relevant pre‑employment screenings will be conducted.
- Pre‑employment physical, DOT drug screen, background check, and physical exam approved by company physician required.
- Candidate responsible for travel expenses related to pre‑employment testing and interviews.
- Consent required for continuous monitoring of Motor Vehicle Record.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Class A CDL required.
- Maximum weight 270 lb. fully clothed (includes hard hat and work boots).
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of hand tools, hydraulic and battery tools.
- Experience with bucket trucks.
- Knowledge of energized conductors and proper cover‑up procedures.
- Proficient climber up to 60 ft.
- Knowledge of circuit protection.
- Ability to translate instructions into actions.
- Familiar with industry standard safe work practices.
- Quick learner of Georgia Power work practices and rules.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Customer oriented, team player, willing to learn, motivated, resourceful.
- Available for scheduled or emergency call‑outs.
- Travel outside the state for storm restoration as needed.
Position governed by the collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power and IBEW Local 84. Union membership optional.
Starting salary $49.55 per hour (non‑negotiable). Salary increases every six months based on performance and a general increase each July.
