Low Voltage Technician (Fire Alarm & Security Systems)

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Low Voltage Electrician to join the team as a technician. In this role, you install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair low voltage electrical systems, with a primary focus on fire alarm and security systems in commercial and industrial environments. You also perform installation work for new construction projects, ensuring systems are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair low voltage fire alarm and security systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Perform installation work for new construction projects, including pulling wire, installing conduit, and mounting devices and equipment.
  • Work with access control systems, network cameras, and security systems, including both installation and programming tasks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, prints, and specifications to plan and execute installations and repairs.
  • Perform electrical wiring, diagnostics, and repairs on low voltage systems; high voltage work is accepted but not required.
  • Install and service access control, fire alarm, security cameras, radios, and related low voltage equipment.
  • Use power tools, meters, and other field tools to complete installations, troubleshoot issues, and verify proper system operation.
  • Apply basic mechanical skills in the field to support installation and repair activities.
  • Provide field leadership on projects and service calls and demonstrate the qualities needed to grow into a formal leadership position.
  • Conduct basic and advanced troubleshooting on fire alarm, security, and camera systems to identify and resolve system faults.
  • Complete detailed service reports, documenting work performed, materials used, and system status after service or installation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, providing updates, explanations of work, and answering questions as needed.
  • Work safely on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces, following all safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Operate effectively in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor commercial and industrial job sites.
  • Handle service calls and project work within varying schedules, including early start times depending on project requirements.
  • Support long-term service and maintenance needs for installed systems, ensuring reliability and proper functioning over time.

Essential

Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in access control, network camera, and security system installation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in access control, network camera, and security system programming preferred.
  • Strong experience with installation and repair of low voltage systems, including fire alarm and security systems.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, prints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Proficient electrical wiring, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair skills for low voltage systems.
  • Hands-on experience with access control, fire alarm systems, security systems, cameras, radios, and related equipment.
  • Basic mechanical skills to support installation and repair tasks.
  • Field leadership experience and the ability to take ownership of projects and service work.
  • Ability to use electrical tools and meters effectively for installation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong customer service skills and clear, professional communication abilities.
  • Ability to complete detailed, accurate service reports and document material usage.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
  • Comfort working in commercial and industrial environments, including construction settings and exposure to the elements.
  • Capability to work Monday–Friday with start times that may vary by project, including 0600, 0700, or 0800 as needed.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Specific industry training in fire alarm, security, access control, or low voltage systems can support higher pay rates.
  • Experience with Honeywell Pro-Watch access control systems is preferred.
  • Experience or certification with Honeywell and Hanwha CCTV systems is preferred.
