Role:
Asphalt Paver Screed Operator based out of Savannah, GA. The successful candidate will maintain an uncompromising focus on safety excellence. The primary function is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade, and finish, and to ensure the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement.
- Set up paver screed correctly and lay a uniform thickness.
- Maintain accurate working knowledge of the paver screed, including correct speed, material flow from the truck, and straight lines.
- Take a leadership role on the crew.
- Keep the paver and screed maintained and clean.
- Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends.
- Operate equipment in a safe and consistent manner.
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies
- Education and/or experience:
High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combinations of education and experience. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. - Physical Demands and Work Environment:

- Must be able to climb onto and off a machine several times a day.
- Must be able to sit in a machine and operate it for several hours.
- Must withstand vibration and noise from job site conditions.
- Must be able to use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform manual duties, such as placing paint drums on the vehicle.
The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions, high places, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually very loud.
