Diesel Technician
The Diesel Technician performs preventive maintenance and repairs on yard trucks, with a strong focus on diesel, electrical, and emission systems. This role diagnoses complex mechanical and electrical issues, completes welding and fabrication work as needed, and ensures all service activities follow safety standards and are accurately documented.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance on yard trucks to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring, battery systems, and related components.
- Conduct computer-based diagnostics and perform emission system repairs, including work on DPF/DEF systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems using schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Execute welding and fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment repair and maintenance.
- Repair and maintain air brake systems to meet safety and performance standards.
- Use diagnostic equipment and basic computer applications to identify issues and document repairs.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and documentation for all maintenance and repair activities.
- Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and completed work clearly and professionally.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support the maintenance operation.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel mechanics or a closely related field.
- Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance on diesel-powered equipment or yard trucks.
- Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, including fuel, air, and emission components.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, including wiring and battery systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics for electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Experience with computer-based diagnostics and basic computer skills for record-keeping.
- Knowledge of emission systems, including familiarity with DPF/DEF systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic systems.
- Demonstrated skill in maintaining and repairing air brake systems.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physical tasks such as stooping, climbing, and kneeling.
- Consistent adherence to safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ownership of a complete set of quality hand tools (preferred).
- Experience working with yard trucks or similar port and industrial equipment.
- Welding and fabrication for maintenance and repair applications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.
- Clear and professional communication skills for coordinating with team members and leadership.
- Attention to detail in both diagnostic work and documentation.

WorkEnvironment
This role is primarily outdoors at port facilities, working on yard trucks and related equipment in an active, industrial setting. The schedule typically runs from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional hours from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sundays. The environment involves exposure to weather conditions, diesel equipment, and standard shop hazards, requiring consistent use of appropriate PPE.
The position is physically demanding, involving lifting up to 70 lbs, stooping, climbing, and kneeling throughout the shift. You will work with diagnostic computers, hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other standard maintenance shop equipment in a structured yet fast-paced setting.
This is a Permanent position based out of Garden City, GA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $43860.00 - $72800.00/yr. Direct position with a growing company. Comprehensive benefits package.
