The Heavy Equipment Operator may also serve as an Electrical Helper and works with skilled electricians on job sites to assist with trenching, excavating and installing underground electrical system materials. This includes bending and installing conduit and wire and other electrical construction activities related to site work, under supervision where required.

• Operate Backhoe and Trackhoe at high skill level
• Operate Excavator at high skill level
• Operate Mini Excavator at high skill level
• Operate Skid Steer at high skill level
• Operate riding Trencher at high skill level
• Operate trench and plate compactors at high skill level
• Digs trenches using hand tools and equipment
• Maintain a safe work environment and follow safety guidelines
• Keep equipment maintained daily
• Assist in securing, relocating and organizing materials, small tools and equipment
• Keep work area and equipment clean by disposing of scrap and excess materials
• Keep equipment, tools and material clean and organized
• Assist in pulling wire, lifting, shoveling, raking, hoisting and positioning materials
• Assist in placing and burying underground conduit
• Perform basic underground conduit installations under supervision
• Assist with electrical installations, connections and terminations under supervision as needed
• Read and interpret site drawings and electrical drawings
• Read and interpret equipment maintenance manuals
• Read and interpret grade stakes and layout stakes

• License:
  Commercial Driver’s License Class A preferred
• DOT Medical Certificate per 49 CFR  if Class A license is held
• Education:
  
  High School diploma or GED
• Experience:
  
  At least 2 years verifiable experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator

• Work in all-weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) depending on location
• Must be able to use construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns)
• Must bring required personal tools (waist tool belt, ~30 lbs)
• Work from ladders and transport/relocate ladders unassisted
• Personal weight with tools must not exceed ladder rated capacity
• Work at heights up to 90 feet from ladders, scaffolds and platforms
• Work in restricted or confined spaces such as switch gear rooms, manholes and crawl spaces
• Wear all required personal protective equipment
• Typically 40 hours per week plus overtime; some night shifts, weekends, and travel may be required

• Identify colors of wires and other items as required
• Understand construction drawings, schematics and specifications
• Bend conduit using hand benders
• Safely use required power tools
• Safely operate construction equipment (trencher, forklift, aerial work platforms, etc.)
• Dig trenches with hand tools or power equipment
• Practice safe work procedures per Company Safety Handbook
• Operate two-handed tools (cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, etc.)
