Overview

Job Title:

Advanced Tree Trimmer. This non-exempt role is a qualified Line Clearance Tree Trimmer responsible for pruning and removing trees, limbs and shrubs away from power lines to reduce vegetation interference. The role uses various equipment, tools and techniques to perform advanced tree care while considering growth patterns, health and appearance of trees.

• Load vehicles and equipment with limbs and logs suitable for removal or processing.
• Trim, remove and/or fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools, including powered lifts, safety belts, ropes, ladders, hand saws, ground saws, pruners and other applicable tools.
• Work aloft to cut branches or trunk sections and lower them with rigging lines; use ground tools to fell trees or trunks and split into manageable pieces.
• Operate safely around hazardous equipment and near energized power lines; supervise non-qualified employees working near energized conductors.
• Apply herbicide growth regulators to brush and stumps; maintain accurate application records.
• Educate and enforce company safety practices, policies, procedures, approved work methods and OSHA regulations; repair minor property damage when occurring on site.
• Escalate issues to General Foreperson in a timely manner.
• Feed brush and debris into a wood chipper; set up warning signs, barriers, flags, and traffic control devices to protect workers and the public.
• Coordinate with property owners, customers and emergency personnel when blocking streets or driveways.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment for proper working condition; perform routine maintenance and report specialized maintenance needs to the General Foreperson.
• During emergencies or natural disasters, may be required to be on duty for the duration of the event.
• Support and participate in Wright’s safety culture and employee ownership; comply with applicable laws and company policies; maintain regular attendance.

• Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment; assist with obtaining written permission from property owners as needed.
• Promote and maintain good customer relations with the public and employees.

• Knowledge of trees, growth habits, arboricultural techniques for trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing trees near energized conductors.
• Strong customer service and communication skills; ability to build rapport with the public, customers and employees.
• Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards for tree care operations and pruning; coach employees on safety requirements.
• Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps; understanding OSHA 29 CFR  standards.
• Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts and distinguish live parts from other parts of electrical equipment.
• Ability to learn quickly, follow instructions, communicate professionally, and represent the company well.
• Ability to read and write written and verbal job instructions and safety information; recognize poisonous plants and take appropriate precautions.
• Must wear required PPE; ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, including holidays and storms.
• Knowledge and training in tree and bucket rescue; ability to operate and maintain required tools and equipment; work independently or in a team.

• Minimum 1 year of experience on tree trimming or clearing crews or successful completion of applicable skills assessments.
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Current CPR and First Aid credentials or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card in accordance with FMCSA regulations; drive vehicles with attached chippers or trailing units.
• Maintain herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by Wright Tree Service and applicable laws.
• Stay informed on new equipment, specifications, standards, practices and procedures.
