The Handyperson will play an essential role in Hospice Savannah Inc’s (HSI) Community Aging in Place—Advancing Better Living for Elders (CAPABLE) program by performing home repairs and modifications to improve safety, accessibility, and functionality for underserved, under-resourced older adults. The Handyperson will conduct thorough home assessments to identify necessary work and serve as part of an inter‑professional team with the CAPABLE Program Manager, Occupational Therapists, and CAPABLE Registered Nurses.
The team works collaboratively to implement modifications tailored to each participant's needs.
- Perform home repairs and modifications to improve safety and accessibility.
- Conduct comprehensive home assessments to determine necessary work.
- Document client encounters accurately, timely, and concisely using a computer or tablet device.
- Collaborate with inter‑professional team members to implement participant‑specific modifications.
- Travel to client locations using personal vehicle.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years experience in aging‑in‑place home modifications or a related field.
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks.
- Must be able to accurately, timely and concisely document the client encounter using a computer or tablet device.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work from a collaborative, client‑centered model.
- Familiarity with universal design principles and the selection and use of durable medical equipment.
- Familiarity with accessibility modifications for older adults or individuals with mobility limitations.
- Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and ADA guidelines.
- Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) certification.
- Experience working with older adults.
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks.
The Handyperson position may require visits to areas determined by local authorities as high‑risk crime zones or unsafe situations. The role requires moderate visual concentration for client charting/documentation and a risk of exposure to infectious diseases, necessitating standard safety precautions. The Handyperson must lift items that may weigh more than 75 pounds using proper body mechanics and be able to walk, stand, climb, kneel, reach, crawl, push, pull, and twist throughout the workday.
PositionType and Hours
This position works 20 hours per week, with occasional requests to work additional hours as needed.
Travel Requirements- Must be able to travel as required.
- Required to perform client visits utilizing personal vehicle.
- May be designated to a specific department or region but may be required to serve clients outside that area.
