This position is responsible for assisting the Senior Lifeguard in supervising activities in and around the swimming pool and maintaining a safe environment.

- Instructs and assists with aquatic programming.
- Teach swim lessons.
- Coaches the swim team.
- Vacuums the pool.
- Document facility information daily regarding the pool which includes registrations, pool testing, reporting hazards, incidents, accidents and assisting with any injured visitors as trained.
- Work at Swim Meets.
- Perform lifeguard duties when the pool is in use.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must be 15 years old.
Must possess or obtain Lifeguarding Certification, CPR Certification, and First Aid Certification. The City of Savannah offers all required training.
Additional RequirementsBackground investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre‑employment medical screen; and verification of certifications required before employment.

- Knowledge of lifeguard techniques.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
Aquatics Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The Senior Guard checks work for compliance with instructions and established procedures.
GUIDELINES:
Guidelines include the swimming pool manual, the Department of Environmental Health Book of Codes and Rules, Guidelines for CPO, and instructions from pool maintenance personnel. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY:
The work consists of supervising citizens using swimming pool facilities. Performing assigned duties. Maintaining all equipment and having to supervise large numbers of participants, contributes to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT:
The purpose of this position is to supervise citizens using swimming pool facilities. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of a safe recreation site for citizens.
PERSONAL CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically with co‑workers, general public, coaches, daycare personnel, summer camp personnel, and Red Cross workers.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, to motivate or influence persons, and to justify, defend, negotiate, or settle matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed outdoors in hot, cold, or inclement weather. The work exposes the employee to machinery with moving parts, contagious diseases, and irritating chemicals. The work week typically runs forty to sixty hours a week.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
Ensuring that citizens using the swimming pool facilities are abiding by the Georgia Health Department rules posted.
