Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of a law enforcement officer, performs work of assisting school children and other pedestrian traffic with safe crossing public streets at designated intersections going to and returning from school.

REPORTS TO: Campus Police Corporal, School Crossing Guard Supervisor.

SALARY

SCHEDULE:

Grade 101

WORK DAYS: 190

Requirements
  • Education Level: A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved and accredited institution is required.
  • Incumbents are expected to maintain an alert attitude to prevent hazardous traffic situations.
  • Sufficient strength, vision, hearing, stamina, and agility to perform all duties on a regular basis without assistance, including in inclement weather.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
Essential Duties
  • Ability to learn basic traffic laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to school zones.
  • Direct and regulate the flow of traffic at school crossings or within a reduced speed school zone.
  • Stop vehicle traffic on roadways near schools to allow children to cross safely; assist children to safely cross public streets.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain discipline, develop positive relationships and command respect among school children.
  • Assist school bus traffic in and out of the school parking lots.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment in emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
  • Terms of Employment

    Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be determined by the student school calendar days, flexible as determined by Campus Police. Non-exempt, Grade 101. Positions may be filled as .50 or .49 or less FTE.
