SY 25‑26 Transportation, Fleet Mechanic

Savannah‑Chatham County Public School System – Transportation Division, Savannah, Georgia.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of fleet maintenance experience in heavy diesel, truck, or bus repair, service, or automotive repair.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to travel within the county.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Pass all required training, certification, and safety programs as dictated by the district.
• Commercial driver’s license with school bus and passenger endorsement within 90 days of employment.

• Completion of a vocational or technical school automotive training program.
• ASE School Bus certification in Brakes, Electrical/Electronic, Diesel Engines, Drive Train, Suspension/Steering, or Body Systems.
• Strong knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance techniques.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to diagnose and repair both routine and complex problems on all types of automotive vehicles and components.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
• Ability to work with principals, administrators, and other school personnel.

• Must provide own hand tools and power tools necessary to repair vehicles.
• Must successfully pass training certification and safety programs as required by the District.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet critical needs.

Employees are normally exposed to a typical office environment, with occasional lifts or pulls of equipment or supplies, bending, stooping, or stretching, and frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment. Physical demands may include occasional heavy lifting up to 50 pounds and exposure to dust, chemicals, extreme heat, and hazardous materials.

Full‑Time

$24.00 to $41.63 per hour.
