Heavy Equipment Operator – Street Cleaning Division

Operate and maintain assigned heavy motorized equipment, inspect equipment before use, ensure necessary repairs are made, and clean the streets of Savannah.

• Operates and maintains heavy motorized equipment, including street sweepers and dump trucks.
• Completes route sheets and daily reports.
• Inspects equipment before use and performs minor repairs as necessary.
• Inspects job sites for possible hazards.
• Responds to customer inquiries and refers customer complaints to supervisor.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED with two (2) years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid state Class B Commercial Driver’s License.

Must be able to work Monday – Thursday, 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM with overtime as required.

18 Interchange Court.

This is a critical workforce and safety‑sensitive position.

• Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post‑offer/pre‑employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of assigned heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of department safety procedures.
• Knowledge of repair and maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
• Skill in operation of maintenance tools and equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
