Overview
Shipping Supervisor is directly responsible for supervising the shipping/warehouse operation, and personnel. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving excellence in executing and controlling assigned shipping/warehousing operations. Ensure the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are being adhered to in the handling and storage of all materials; i.e. finished goods, raw materials and equipment. Provide the required training and certifications to the lift truck operators.
The Shipping Supervisor is also responsible for the general housekeeping of the warehouse, assigning tasks as needed to maintain a safe, neat, and orderly environment. The scope of this position includes direct supervision of the shipping personnel and management of safety, daily operations, equipment maintenance, scheduling, daily inventory space, quality standards, and miscellaneous supply items for operating efficiently. This position will have overall responsibility for the shipping/warehouse supervision function.
- Plan and direct daily and weekly activities of the shipping/warehouse function (including receiving) to meet or exceed safety goals, service metrics, shipping/warehouse and receiving department budget compliance, transportation lane compliance and service reliability targets.
- Oversee inbound and outbound shipping activities; monitor performance of operators against standard operating procedures, identify areas for improvement and implement resolution.
- Oversee the daily operation of FDL location(s) including incoming and outgoing shipments, order processing, physical inventory and invoice processing.
- Manage all aspects of rail shipping, including coordinating the partner activity with third party trans loaders and related carriers.
- Handle all customer service compliance in regard to shipment, damage, and error.
- Manage labor; schedule shipping and receiving personnel work hours to minimize operating costs while meeting the needs of the customers and carriers; make labor assignments fairly and without prejudice to effectively handle volumes and meet the handling metrics within the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.
- Ensure accurate usage of the WMS system in shipping, receiving, and all product movement.
- Manage inventory; oversee the day to day warehouse operation and inventory control to ensure there is sufficient daily production space, product is accurately counted, properly stored, rotated (FIFO), cycle counts are complete and accurate. Evaluate and resolve root causes for inventory discrepancies.
- Provide proper training to shipping employees in the area of safety, standard operating procedures, and quality standards.
- Create a safe work environment by developing safe work practices and enforcing compliance with company/site safety policies, OSHA or other regulatory agencies.
- Ensure good housekeeping and provide excellent leadership in the safety area.
- Generate reports or other written correspondence needed to insure proper administration of the department.
- Ensure all pre and post-shift equipment inspections are conducted. Identify and schedule equipment maintenance needs when required. Monitor forklift usage and recommend adjustments to maximize utilization. Investigate unreported damage.

- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required;
Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) is preferred. - Minimum 3+ years of experience in high volume distribution environment is required.
- APICS-Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) is preferred OR Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) is preferred OR Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD)-APICS is preferred.
