General DescriptionIn alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, and as a contributing member of the educational team, this position supports the development of student communication skills essential for academic and social success. Under the direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA implements speech and language programs and services tailored to students' individual needs. The SLPA provides direct support to students with a broad range of communication disorders, including difficulties related to language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
All services are delivered in accordance with the supervising SLP's guidance and within the scope of practice defi ned by the SLPA license.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required
include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- A. Provide direct treatment assistance to students as directed by the supervising SLP.
- B. Follow documented therapy plans and instructional strategies developed by the SLP that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of individual students and is selected through an evidence-based decision-making process in accordance with the IEP/IFSP documentation
- C. Demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity in the area of language acquisition with linguistically and/or culturally diverse populations
